Waypoint (the marker game) Teams: A&B Objective: Find each waypoint; keep the other team away from the waypoints Hits: 1 (respawn) Special Equipment: 1 waypoint card per team. 3 waypoints (each is basically a different color sharpie marker) Setup: The ref puts each waypoint somewhere on the field in plain sight, in the middle of the floor, on a desk, a barrel, etc before the teams are deployed to the field. Teams are then divided up normally and deployed to their respective starting areas. Once deployed each team decides on who will carry the waypoint card (see below for special rules involving the waypoint card). Play: The ref signals the start of the game. The teams then sweep through the field looking for the waypoints. When a player is hit they must immediately precede to their respective respawn points. After thirty seconds they may return to play. Once a waypoint is found the team must mark the waypoint card with the marker. The mark can only be recorded on the team’s waypoint card. Once all three waypoints have been found the team shouts out that the game is over. Special Rules for Waypoints and Waypoint Cards: The waypoints may not be moved or hidden. Players may only touch them in order to mark the waypoint card. If the player carrying the waypoint card is hit, they must return to the respawn point and wait to re-enter the game. They must hold on to the waypoint card during this time. They may not pass it to other players; the way point card may only be passed between players who are active. Teams may camp the waypoints to prevent the opposing team from marking their waypoint card. __________________

This game seemed to be pretty successful at CQB last Friday. The only complaints people had were that the waypoints were hard to see. I will be making up containers that are more obvious for the next time out. I'm thinking of putting combination locks on the waypoints to make people have to take more time to mark their cards. If anyone played this game on Friday I would love to get feedback. J __________________

I'm sure it was just because it was the first day this was played, but when all of the waypoints were either in A or behind it in the vent shaft, it made it horrendously unfair for the team that started on the Embassy side. Hopefully the refs will figure out good places to put the waypoints such that both teams have a fair shot at winning the game. That said, it was still fun to play. An interesting twist may be to actually have more than one team, but finding ways to differentiate may be difficult (we only have one color vest). I do like the lock box (said in the best Al Gore voice) idea. The locations would be obvious and it wouldn't be trivial to secure the waypoint.

I have an update for this game. I have made up new waypoints out of PVC pipe. They should be easily seen by anyone. They now have screw tops to make getting the marker take a few seconds longer. I'll have them on Saturday, 12/31. J __________________

The game is one of the best games that we have played. The only advantage that the Vets have is that they know the map. Newbees can stumble onto them and have just as much fun. __________________ Benny Blanco fm Queens...

Change Randomly change the location of the waypoints I guess? Spray paint the PVC the colors of the markers they hold? OOOOOORRR spray paint them a neon glow in the dark color? (Glow in the dark would allow it to be placed in dark places) Also, the combonations is a great idea I think! Maybe even make the game harder by making the teams have to get the combonations. Or give 3 people on each team a single number of the lock lol. (I think combo locks use 3 numbers? Well, you give out how many numbers there are you, you get it :P) oooooh, gives me and awesome idea for another game >> .. I'll post it hehe Can't leave the credit in this threat .. I .. must .. get .. credit .. xD lolAloha

What we do when we play this is have a ref place the three canisters in random areas of the arena. If we play again we just have the ref hide them in different spots. Painting the canisters different colors is hardly necessary, at least for us, because there are only three. We put one in the middle and one close to each team's starting point. It's pretty easy to tell which ones you've gotten because the arena isn't that big. I thought about having locks on the canisters but that would make getting into them too much of a pain. Plus making the canisters became more complicated. Trust me it can feel like an eternity just unscrewing a top, marking a card, and putting the top back on when there are three or four guys shooting at you. I do have ideas for games with combinations but haven't gotten around to making them up. __________________

Sounds like fun! Another idea to defend a waypoint from the other team is that you could place a sniper about 60-100 feet away in a hidden location and pick intruders off! They would be so surprised... (almost done... BAM!) Just an idea! __________________ Commander... of the fighting men... of the 501st |
