I had an idea, and I was wondering if anyone else has either thought of it, tried it, seen it, or thinks it would work, let alone be practical. An airsoft mortar. In my mind, it works like this: You have a tube on a bipod (basically just like a real mortar launcher) and some sort of pin at the bottom that would cause a grenade, like those used in a regular grenade launcher, to detonate after sliding it down the tube. I think it would be cool, and could work, but I'd like a little input before I go out and buy a grenade, only to discover my AWESOME:D plan won't work.

So the only way people would know they where hit is because of the BB's "raining" down on them at 5 FPS?

3 problems.

1. You could shoot further then you could use this mortor.
2. you could hand detonate a nade further then this mortor.
3. If your enemy is still enough for you to use it, and close enough for it to hit him, then there is no point in using it since they have already shot you 10 times....

Well if you had a co2 tank and a pressure valve, you could hook it up to release a burst of co2 upon pulling a pin. Then just make pre-packaged capsules of BB's (Like a plastic eater egg) and watch it burst upon impact. Not a guarantee that it would work, just an idea for you to sit on.

I would listen to that "kids dont try this at home", but I just have to. Not to mention I have some grease monkey friends that might be interested. So to make one all you'd need is:
Easter egg
PVC pipe near diameter of the egg
BB's
co2
Pressure valve
Bipod

But to make it real so when it drops down the pvc, the pressure release could be a pin at the bottom, and when it hits it it releases a burst of co2.

This site already made them. :/

I can see your point. I've never seen a nade in action before, thus being unable to know about their range, spread, etc. That's why I asked, and it seems to have saved me time and $. thanks:)

My friends and I had wanted one a while back, but after some simple experements and getting a price tag we realized it was too impractical and expensive to make/use. Yesterday I was at a skirmish and had the chance to watch some guys from Galveston shoot off their AT-4 and LAWW rockets at a sniper tower. It was pretty amazing and made me want to start up my RPG project again. If you still want a mortor type thing but not make a mortor, make an AT-4.

Pappy and phantom of sickboys airsoft have actuly made a real working airsoft mortar but they tend to use nerf rockets instead. I gave them i idea awhile back after one of the big ops before Op IV1. since then they have done really well with it. ive seen them loose many a football with it.
I helped test one of the mortar prototypes for the promotional video for Op Imperal vengance 2 at PBSL. all i can say about it is I really want to buy them. and these really shoot farther then even a high powered airsoft sniper.

The point of a mortar is to have EXPLOSIVES at the point of impact. Can't really have that effect launching BB's.

Unless....

Drop a Tornado in your mortar and somehow make the timer to 10 seconds, at which it detonates a few feet before hitting the ground. =D

Yes that is the point but thats too dangerous to do in our simulation sport. If that tornado or any other grenade launched were to hit someone in the head, bad news. I did see a video on youtube the other day, which showed how to make a mortar. All it was is a tube about 40mm sized, that had a cap on the bottom with the head of a nail sticking up in the center. You then drop a loaded 40mm grenade in and you can guess the rest.

lol me and my friends took a potato gun that looked pretty much like a bazooka and got it to work so it would shout a huge cloud of bb's 50+ feet
