Given that I only play indoors I can't offer too much. In theory the mindset should be the same. Good tactics can be applied to any environment. Things like, paying attention to your surroundings, listening for the enemy, the use of fire and cover (fire team) tactics are always important. Not to mention having teammates that keep the chatter up. Communication between team members is critical.

no doubt...team communication is HUGE... we cleared the first floor of a building in about 10 min... then the attack broke down because our team got seperated and we had no commmunication... if we had comunicated, we could have cleared the rest of the building in about 6 min... but because we didnt the game ended before we could get the last 3 guys... oh well... it was a good lesson and i think will result in us making SURE we communicate both our secondary plan of attack, as well as what to do if we get separated...and keeping in constant communication throughout the game...

BRASS definitly trains for Hostage Rescue and such. We even have guest instructors that are SWAT experts come in and do our training for us. I am also working on getting a friend who is private contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan to come in to do our training next time he's back stateside. Its not a problem of the training, its the building issues. The stairs are open, which means anyone standing on the top floor can basically control the stairwell, one side is open, so another person can control two sides of the building. See the pics here:
