It all started with a little blood....
The first game I played was medic, we started on the warehouse side and I moved up the first room outside A and was I trading shots whom ever was holding the door. I pulled back to next to last room on that side when I heard that the vent was beginning rushed and started trading shots with the team that was moving up the vent. I was killed and brought by the medic a couple of times up right until my medic shot me in the back of the ear from about eight inched away. Well I went to my knee and I was waiting for the medic to bring me back when I felt something running down my neck, I put my hand to my neck and it came away red. So I decided that for the rest of this game I was be dead and left the field. I had taken the hit on a blood vessel on the back of ear and it bleed for a couple of minutes. It looked a whole lot worse than it was, I think Chuck has some pictures. I sat out one game cleaning the wound and went back to have a good time playing, I just had to where Dave was and made sure he was in front of me. I hold no ill will for Dave, it was part of the game.

I wasn't there for the actual shooting, but I saw the aftermath.
I suggested that he should leave the blood in the shirt and wear it every time he plays. That way we can scare the newbs with tales of "old bloody Dean!"
Anyway, it was a pretty good night overall. Unfortunately, we had problems with unfair captains and the resulting teams. Chuck did his best but had a real hard time getting experienced players to volunteer. The end result was that we typically had one experienced captain and one non-experienced.
It's very clearly posted that no games may take place unless there is a non-playing ref on the field. One suggestion for Chuck and the other refs is that rather then badgering people, simply state that until two people that have played there enough to know what they are doing volunteer to captain, the game won't start.
Another suggestion: How could we make the captain selection random? Or maybe even the team selection random? Not for every game, but at least for a few every night. Flipping a coin might take too long, unless you could get two people going at once. Of course, when you consider the time is now takes waiting for someone to be a captain, the timing might come out even. :)
Just some thoughts. Any others?

Draw cards? Then split down the middle based on high cards to low or red and black. All random.

as far as picking captains give everyone a card take another deck flip two cards those people w/ matching cards are captains.
or my favorite if the ref says ur a captain just do it n dont bitch they pick you because they know youre experienced and know how to pick a fair(for the most part) and equal team
The refs just need to start picking people.
Screw being diplomatic, the ref should just point, and it be done.

How bout if no one volunters to be captain that meets the criteria of a vet player who wont pick lopsided teams, then have the Ref choose teams. I think most of the refs there can accurately say who is a vet and who isint and split us up accordingly into 2 somewhat fair teams.
Alternatively, let the ref have a sort of "veto" power. If lopsided teams are picked, allow the ref to swap one or two players from team to team in order to even it out a bit.

Actually this is one of the better ideas. IMO
The refs picking teams is probably the best way to go.
Just have everybody stand in clusters of who they want to play with, and have the refs divide appropriately. If needed, split up those groups.
It'd be fast, simple, and fair. Certainly a lot less confusing than the current system.

I'll try this next time I'm reffing:D

I want to throw a note out there...
I do NOT pay $20 of my hard earned money to be told that I cant ever play on the same team as my friends...
I will be on what ever team I am picked on, but if I CANNOT be on the same team as some people because we are "too good"
I have addressed this before, If someone want to bitch about teams being picked.. then STEP UP the next time the refs ask for captains, if you did not, then you have NO right to bitch about how teams were picked...
This particular night everyone in PAIN but 1 ran pistols only all night, as did all of Team BC... People STILL complained when we were on the same team...
I was on the other side of this stack once that night... I looked around and saw a buntch of people that i did not know, but it WAS a bunch of adults and they were all packing (for the most part) good AEG's very few rentals at all...
As I sat there locking and loading my pistols I heard one of these "adults" say "dam... all the vets are on that team... this is over before it even starts..."
People like that should stay at home... THAT is why they are losing... not because the vets are on the other side...

that all being said, I had a great time running dual pistols all night.... I think I will be giving the P90 a rest for a while and refine my pop shooting skills some..
Thanks to those that showed up and played... thanks x2 to those that did not bitch all night.... :D

*People not steping up* I don't know why half the people that play airsoft are mute:p
I've noticed when I'm reffing that there is a certain percentage of people that are completely unenthused about playing. These people will have TONS of gear, meaning they honestly like airsoft. But when it comes to actually partaking in the sport, they sit back and don't participate in the "pre-game."
However much I feel that the gap between regulars and "noobs" or people that play airsoft but not regularly at cqb is probably the smallest its ever been, I feel like we need to get people into "the spirit" when it comes to actually playing together.
Airsoft is great fun, but its just as much about team work and having fun as it is slinging plastic. These are things that we need to instill in people that complain/bitch, because they're only hurting themselves when they sit by and 1) don't meet new people, 2) don't actively participate in the pre-game room, and 3) blame someone else for their own lack of personal/airsoft edifacy.
I'm going to approach this from a different side here... I think.
I agree, the bitching about being on the lesser side is non sense. We all learn by doing and I've got a ton of real world training yet get my arse handed to me at acqb. To me the learning is the fun of it. My son and wife both said the same thing. Just playing is fun. Now, how to handle that... no clue. Sorry LOL haha Actually it's hard for most people as very few people are elite and part of the clicks in the real world. So they don't know how to do things when "clubs" are present. I'll be the first to tell you ACQB has it's clubs BUT unlike the outdoor places and others it really doesn't take sides which is awesome. But to most outsiders they don't know that, it still seems like clubs/gangs/clicks to them. I'm a talker (way to much) which allowed me to get through it easier than the others. If you want to get the people playing more as family like we all do... talk to them more. ALL IMO

Have you ever known me, or any member of PAIN for that matter to be unapproachable?? If asked(it has happened) I will have a noob stick with me or another member of PAIN all night so they learn something...
But if all they are willing to do is bitch and complain, Then all I am willing to do is shoot them....alot....

naw, you all are a bunch of good guys, I've pointed that out lots and will do so again, thank you for all your help you provided me and my family and continue too.
I think just that sometimes these guys might be afraid to approach you all. (Ok maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree when it should be chasing cars eh? haha)
BUT I do agree, if they just bitch, treat them the same way back with plastic.

I agree that if you can't step up, you shouldn't be bitching.
I chose to be a captain 3 or 4 times that night because I got tired of standing there waiting. The result is that I ended up picking all the people I know, resulting in uneven teams.
At one point, the other captain was doing such a poor job, that I told him to pick two people for every one I picked.
I do agree with Jab, that since I'm paying to play there, I should be permitted to play with the people I want. That's why I think a few randomly chosen games a night, with the rest being picked normally, are a good way to do it.
...The result is that I ended up picking all the people I know, resulting in uneven teams...
This is a good reason for only vets being the captains. IMO
I personally don't know who is a vet or not, who is any good or not, and who plays on what team as I'm way too new (like many? or some there). So making me a captain would make no sense (although I was made captain once and felt like a dolt trying to pick people.
So lets see.. maybe...
The ref picks the captains and since the ref is a vet (should be) and knows most of the people (should def) they can "encourage" more even team picking.
