View Full Version : Tracking Progress through Ratings

I have been trying to think of some new things to try, and one of the big things I would like to see is some kind of rating
system, whether it be for individuals, teams, or both. One of the difficulties of Airsoft is it is difficult to track total
kills, or statistics, or other indicators of how good someone or someteam is. The reason I think this is important,
is that although it is great fun to go shoot each other each week, I think it would be more fun if there was a measurement
to support your sense of accomplishment. Games are generally more fun when you have a tangable way to track your progress and a tangable goal to shoot for.

What kind of game could be created that could be played that would allow for this?

I have two ideas, the first runs into a problem with there being two many people who come to play, though we'll have to see. The other one shouldnt have that problem to the same degree. Here are my example ideas.

The 1st game would consist of a small number of people, 15 would be ideal, about 20 tops. They would all have their names on a paper or whiteboard in the staging area with 2 columns, one for kills and one for time. Before the game starts the players would be evenly distibuted across the play area. It would then be a one hit deathmatch to the last man standing, possibly with a 15 timelimit. As each person is hit, they would need to remember who hit them as they walk out and identify their killer on the sheet in the staging area. Obviously some way of identifying each other would be need to be decided. As each person is out he writes in his survival time, kills and marks one for his killer on the sheet. At the end, when only one is left, the game ends, the kills are tallied and a ranking structure is created based on time alive and kills. The two combine to decide your rank. A kill would be worth more than time obviously. This could be done frequently and could become something tracked across the weeks, with 3 columns, games played, kills, and time alive. This would allow for new levels of competition, and would also assist in the development of skill that is difficult to achieve when part of a large team. Skills which will aid the team as each individual will be stronger, thereby making the team strronger. If we ask nicely, Jason may even host the scores on his site!

Another would be once we form teams, we could have, say 4 teams on the field, deathmatch against the other teams. This could be used for team ranking and would also be a way to create some friendly competition and team pride.

While these particular example games may or may not work out, it should convey the concept I am trying to get across. I have found that in almost every sport or venture in life, friendly competition is a great thing, and greatly aids personnel progress, so how can we achieve/increase that here?

I mentioned goals in the first post, what I mean by that is that if we have a list of the top players, with their kill count, it gives everyone something to shoot for (get it, shoot for..). Anyway. I think they would increase the enjoyment fo the game.

You would need like an Airsoft secretary for this....all be it very interesting information to see my supa stats.... I'd rather spend my time killing then crunching numbers and stats.....that's what work is for.

no number crunchin requiered. if bob kills you, you put a check next to his name. at the end you count the checks. takes less than 5 minutes. without something like this there is no way for your awesomeness to be measured...

First off I like the idea of a "head count" to keep track, but there is the informality problem. For the most part, I for one, don't know the names of half the people that hit me; I know the face and uniform but not the name. Second there is the fact that people will "forget" the person that shot them, therefore not giving that person a count. If everyone could have a name to face it can work.
