There are 3 general types of airsoft gears in most gearboxes. They are,

  • The Bevel Gear
    • This is the first gear in the mechanics of the gearbox. It has direct contact with the motor on its outermost ring.
    • The next part up on the Bevel Gear makes direct contact with the anti-reversal latch.
    • The third is the smallest and t engages the Spur gear.
  • The Spur Gear
    • The outermost ring of this gear is engaged by the Bevel gear.
    • The upper smaller gear engages the Sector gear
  • The Sector Gear
    • The underside ring is engaged by the Spur gear.
    • The outermost half ring are the teeth that engage the piston.
    • The knob on top of the outermost ring engages the tappet plate.

Gears are made with one of 3 materials, plastic, pot metal, and steel. These are listed in order of quality from lowest to highest. Most LPEGS have plastic gears. Most MPEGS have pot metal gears so do some higher end AEGS. A few choice AEGS are made with steel gears pre installed, however most steel gears come from after market companies and must be installed later when upgrades are wanted.
