Intro

Bushings are an integral part of an AEG Gearbox. They are the removable casings that gears fit into. Located along each side of the gearbox, they are designed to take the brunt of the friction created by the rotation of the gears.

Types of Bushings

Nearly all "LPEG" class AEG's have either Plastic or Nylon bushings. Even higher end AEG manufacturers such as Tokyo Marui, VFC, G&G use Nylon bushings. Old model ICS AEG's, as in anything created before the release of the "ICS Anniversery Edition" will all have Nylon bushings. All current Classic Army AEG's have Steal bushings, which are MUCH less prone to failure than any other type of bushing.

Certain "CA" AEG's such as the "M15a4 CQB" have Steal bushings with bearings. These bushings offer greater AEG perfomance through the great reduction in friction provided by the bearings. Higher Rate of Fire (RoF) can be attained through the use of these bushings. The one downside to Steal bearing bushings is the failure of the unit. The bearings, as to this date, have been far more fragile than Steal bushings. Upon failure of the Steal bearing Bushings it is possible for the bearings to be lodged into gears, which will either jam the gearbox, or strip teeth off of said gears. This is however a rare occurence, and most users of Steal bearing bushings never run into problems.

As far as durability goes for other types, Plastic Bushings are, at best, something that should be replaced expidiently. Nylon Bushings are sufficient but, depending on the RoF of a gearbox, can be worn down over time. For true durability, Steal bushings are the best choice for long lasting performance.
